Our mission is to promote youth development in historically excluded communities through access to high-quality, student-centered music education and ensemble performance.
City Strings United was founded in 2012 on the belief that access to high-quality youth programs can create positive change in economically-strained communities and foster the social, emotional and educational development of its youth. As a 501(c)(3) non-profit youth development program, City Strings United provides free cello lessons and unique performance opportunities to six through eighteen-year-old students primarily from urban Boston. But we teach our students much more than musical skills. Our focus is on discipline, teamwork, respect, listening and accountability - all attributes that we nurture to develop the whole child.
City Strings United Is Proud To Be
What Our United
"My child has learned not only how to play the cello, she has gained skills with working as a team as well as leadership skills. Her confidence level has soared giving her self-esteem in her ability to do anything she sets her mind to do. It has been wonderful watching City String's mold the kids to be successful adults."
"I wanted them to have a love and appreciation for music. Israel is firm and has high expectations for them. She just exudes passion for music."
"Since my daughter's participation in City Strings her confidence level has gone up. She has gained a strong sense of community. She has developed a love for her string instrument and has even gotten Awards and won talent shows and her school from playing. We are so grateful to City Strings!"
"What she’s done here is remarkable. Cello has made [my daughter] more focused. She practices all the time."
Really. Ask us anything.
